Country First, Always
I have made it quite clear that I am not a fan of Wyndham Clark — so much so that after he won the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, I dubbed him "Wyndam the Ruiner." And I stand by that. Shinnecock got its first U.S. Open in eight years, earlier this summer, and he totally ruined the week. He is also a provocative guy — he calls people out and can be, for lack of a better term, a dick. But as I listened to one of his post-round interviews following the Thursday Four Ball at the Presidents Cup, he said something that normally would have pissed me off, but for some reason, it didn't.
When asked about the atmosphere, he said, “It was kind of dead out there... I felt like the momentum could have been better, to be honest, because we weren't really feeling the fans, I think, as much as normal.”
Following last year's debacle at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, where, through the first two days, the U.S. Team had been trounced, one could have expected the crowd to be fired up, pushing their country to get its revenge, albeit on a different opponent. But that was not the case, and Wyndham was right to call them out for their lack of noise.
I will always stand with and root for my country. So, this week, I will root for Wyndham Clark. If he is wearing an American flag, he's good in my book. Once it's off, it goes back to normal.
P.S. Can these guys all wear the same hat? Uniforms are supposed to be uniform. Wear the same hat. Match your teammates. Let's go USA!
